THE NORTH is a powerful new platform built to connect successful business owners with aspiring entrepreneurs looking for expert advice to help advance their businesses.
EXACTLY WHO IS THE NORTH FOR?
THE NORTH is for any business owner who needs vetted, experienced advice on a subject matter concerning their business. Thanks to our vast network of advisors, we can address anything from growth modeling, to packaging, to 3PLs, to fundraisers — and beyond. If you’re looking for immediate, real-time advice to help solve a long-term business problem, this is that place. If you’re looking for a professional consultant or advisor to make a part of your longer-term business plan, this may be that place too.
HOW DOES THE NORTH WORK?
Simple! With the power of Webex, we’re able to directly connect an influential roster of leading executives across multiple industries, with aspiring founders. Our platform allows users to browse that roster, select any advisor, investor, consultant or short-term project aid that they’d like — and book one-on-one time with them.
To begin, each of the advisors on our board will donate two hours of their own time, before being made available for ongoing, paid consultation.
SO, ARE THE NORTH ADVISORS ALSO CONSULTANTS?
Not technically! Since we have such a vast roster of industry experts, different advisors will have different availability and capabilities. Some hold full-time jobs, while others are more available for short or long-term commitments. It’s totally up to you who you choose to work with and how. All About Our Advisor Sessions
HOW LONG IS EACH ADVISOR SESSION?
As with many things at THE NORTH — it’s up to you! Advisors can be booked for increments of 15, 30 or an hour, depending on your needs and their availability.
WHAT TIME ZONES ARE THE SESSIONS BASED IN?
It depends on where the select advisor is located! But not to fear — we’ll always be sure to display whether the advisor you’re booking operates on EST or PST so that you’re able to schedule accordingly.
HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT ADVISOR FOR MY BUSINESS NEEDS?
Each of our advisors is hand-selected on account of two things: their breadth of accomplishments and their credentialed success in their particular field. Meaning, we have a wide range of expertise available for you to sort and select. Make the filter your friend! WHAT TYPES OF TOPICS AND QUESTIONS AM I ABLE TO ADDRESS WITH MY ADVISOR?
Each of our advisors has a profile page designed to help you understand their background, accomplishments and capabilities to help ensure you’re connecting with the most relevant expertise possible. That said — the sky's the limit! Other than certain proprietary/confidential information about an advisor's business, you should feel free and comfortable to ask whatever you’d like. No matter the subject or session, the more you prepare in advance, the better! We encourage every booker to supply any and all relevant materials, links or references for their advisor to respond to ahead of their session — as with all things, the heavier the context, the faster the solution.
THAT’S GREAT BUT — IS THERE ANYTHING THAT SHOULD BECONSIDERED OFF-LIMITS?
If the advisor you’ve selected is also an investor, you may not ask them directly for an investment. The focus of the advisory sessions should be about guidance, not solicitation. If an advisor is a potential client or customer for your business, we encourage you to think in the same vein. Pending the advisor and situation, there are cases they may not even be able to discuss their existing business, but rather, will help guide by drawing on the breadth of their past experience.
WHAT IF I HAVE FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS AFTER MY SESSION HASENDED?
The best answer: book another session! We pride ourselves on having access to the cream of the crop in the business world. It’s what makes THE NORTH one of the most valuable platforms for aspiring founders. It’s also why we have to limit that time to our sessions. Bookers will not have access to an advisor's personal contact information before, during or after the session.
Some tips to make the best use of your time:
- Email materials over in advance of your session
- Bring a list of questions and topics you’d like to cover to your session
- If you need more time or have follow-ups, book an additional session
BEFORE I BOOK, WILL I BE ABLE TO DISCUSS MY NEEDS WITH THE SELECTED ADVISOR?
While you may not be able to contact the advisor prior to your booking window, our system allows you to write a short note for them during the booking process, explaining what you’d like your consultation to cover. Once your consultation has been booked, you will be prompted to fill out a questionnaire to provide additional information and details to best help the advisor understand your needs, and come to your session prepared with the best possible recommendations.
CAN I BOOK MULTIPLE SESSIONS WITH THE SAME ADVISOR?
Please do! Assuming they have availability, our advisors are on board and excited to help out as much as possible.
Can I record or download my advisor session?
CAN I TAKE SCREENSHOTS OF MY ADVISOR SESSION TO POST TO SOCIAL?
This is also up to the comfortability and permission of your advisor. If social advocacy is something you’re interested in, we ask that you please ask your advisors permission before taking any screenshots, recordings or photos during your consultation. Their permission is required before any content is shared or posted to social media.
HOW ARE THE VIDEO SESSIONS HOSTED?
We partner with Webex, and use their technology to host!
DO I NEED TO DOWNLOAD WEBEX TO USE IT?
CAN I APPLY TO BE AN ADVISOR? IF SO, HOW?
WHAT IF I LOVE MY ADVISOR SO MUCH THAT I WANT TO HIRE THEM FULL-TIME?
Each of our advisors has different degrees of availability, wants and needs, so it’ll be up to the two of you to determine how you would like to continue the relationship, or not!
IF I AM AN ADVISOR, CAN I STILL BOOK A SESSION WITH ANOTHER ADVISOR?
We love this! Every single user is welcome (and encouraged!) to use the power of THE NORTH to make connections, find talent, ask for advice or help however they need — that includes from one another!
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY ADVISOR SESSION?
As with all things in life, preparation is key! The best move is to write down a list of all of the questions you’d like to address during your session. Then, put together a simple document with any relevant information in regards to your business — links, work samples, specific details you’d love to go over — the better the context, the better the results!
WHAT IF MY ADVISOR CANCELS?
While our advisor board is filled with trustworthy, reliable contacts — they do all have busy, full-time jobs outside of THE NORTH that may require them to have to reschedule on occasion. While this is absolutely the exception and not the expectation, if this does happen to you, we will work directly with you and the advisor to ensure that the consultation gets rebooked and rescheduled immediately. If for whatever reason you’re unable to mutually agree on a new time, we may suggest choosing an alternate advisor to book a consultation with, so that your needs are able to be addressed as quickly as possible. We understand that time is money, and when it comes to our clients, we place immense value on both — if you have any questions or concerns about scheduling, please don’t hesitate to email us.
A Bit on Booking and Payment
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELATION AND RESCHEDULING POLICY?
WHEN BOOKING AN ADVISOR SESSION, AM I CHARGED IMMEDIATELY?
You are. On the booking page for each advisor, you’ll be able to directly pay for your session, which will prompt our concierge to schedule your consultation immediately following.
WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?
Our priority is that every client gets an informative, valuable session with a consultant. For that reason, if a client has to cancel, we offer reschedules over refunds. However, in the event that an advisor is the one to cancel, without the ability to reschedule, we will refund your booking if an alternate advisor cannot meet your same requirements.
